The purpose of WSYC-FM is to provide music, sports and information for Shippensburg University and South Central PA. WSYC was also created to provide student training in the fields of radio and audio production, to serve the public interest, and to be an instrument of expression for the university community in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
So you want to be on-air?
WSYC (We Serve Your Community) is Shippensburg University's student funded and run radio station - students are the staff. In addition to playing music, students can be an announcer who broadcasts (and streams to the world over the Internet) various sporting events, public service interviews and documentaries, as well as newscasts. If you want to interview new artists in the music scene, talk to record promoters, work with music label professionals in NYC and around the world, it's all possible. Whatever area you want to explore, you can!
Do I have to be a DJ?
There are many more opportunities for students at WSYC than being a DJ. You can be a music director, production engineer, sales manager, board operator, or concert reviewer. In addition, you can also be a newscaster, conducting interviews and compiling information, along with reading current headlines on air. You could even have your own talk show on sports, music, college life, etc. Anything is possible with WSYC!
